CDT thru-hike 22′

CDT 22’ THRU-HIKE

Walkabout 2.0

Huston, we have our next adventure! It’s been a while since I did a lil ‘walkabout’. Last time I went for a stroll this long was back in 2011 when I competed in the World Championship Adventure Race in Tasmania. Just so happens to be the same race where I came up with the idea for my “travel tattoo leg”. But I digress, next walkabout (drumroll please) …..Hiking the CDT, Continental Divide Trail. Thru-hike. Yup, all 3,100 miles in one trip. (Give or take a few miles, depending on the route) From the border of New Mexico/Mexico to Canada. Get some!

I have been selected by Warrior Expeditions as one of their candidates to hike the CDT. I am beyond thrilled to have been accepted into their program and feel very blessed to take on this new challenge. Check them out, they are doing some really cool adventures for Veterans!

Let ‘s take a step back and allow me to get real with you for a second. I have a confession to make. I hate walking. I would rather run 10 miles than walk two blocks. If it’s more than two blocks I’m taking a scooter or an Uber. This is how it is. Some fights are worth fighting, others are a lost battle before it even begins.  I just know myself well enough to pick my battles.

So why am I going to walk/hike the infamous CDT? A trail of 3,100+- miles! Simple, tame my inner bitch. Along with “it’s been on my bucket list for a few years” and why not challenge myself? Don’t like walking two blocks, good. Go walk 3,100 miles! A man must challenge himself often, go outside his comfort zone, push the limits. Mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Now granted I don’t feel this will be the hardest thing I have done to date in my short time on this rock. But it is a new and different type of challenge. Besides, camping for 4+ months straight with little to no interaction with other humans what’s not to love about that?

More details to come along with blogs, posts, gear list, route, and pics of this epic adventure when I begin April 14, 2022! Be sure to check out my blog fishtales for updates.
